The Meow-ning of Words: When Linguistics Gets Fur-Midable!
Fank mew for inviting me 😻
I have to tell you I was too busy looking at the photos of your cats to pay much attention to your post. I love Siamese cats!
The Cat Who … wrote a newsletter.
I am re-reading Lilian Jackson Braun’s “The Cat Who” series with the two Siamese cats Koko and YumYum
Oh, thank you! They’re not even “real” siamese, they were just stray cats we adopted and fed. Lilla lived with my husband for over 22 years but now she’s gone, while Pirate is enjoying her life in our garden. :) I’ll tell her you say hi!
22 years is a really amazing age. Pirate - Purrate ;)
Good meowning from NZ
So nice to meet someone from so far away! MeowZealand!
I like your catitude
Mew Zealand 😁
Meow you’re talking
This is purrfection!
I, too, am fascinated by how we’ve invented a whole parallel language for our furry overlords and they didn’t even ask us to. Or did they?
Thank you Federica and Meow Factor :)
It's like a real linguistic treasure trove, and it's so much fun to research it. And our feline overlords never ask 🐈
Thank you, dear! It truly is a weird phenomenon.
Your always connecting languages to things I never thought of! This was very pawformative! XD
Ahahah thanks! Well this was all due to my brilliant guest.
“pawformative” is a good one, I have come across it as “imfurmative”. It’ll go in my list straight away. I collect cat words 😻
Mac is my departed tabby. He was not merely a talker. He had a broad vocabulary. If Mac were a person, he would have spoken five languages.
Cat actually have quite a wide range of sounds they can produce: vowels and consonants, and intonation as well.
I have a tabby cat at home, and I call him "tabbyraptor".
Wow! That’s a beautiful image. Thanks for sharing. I’m sure he was great!
I’m in Italy right now, I wonder if I can work that Italian saying into a sentence somehow!
I'm sure you'll find a way! Where are you in Italy?
Sardinia, very lovely but very hot!
